Totally thrown together book with no thought. It has a table of contents, that lists page numbers, but what's the point since the pages in the book are not numbered? First recipe I looked at was Chicken Casserole with Root Vegetables and Sausage (supposedly on pg 29, but who knows?) and it never tells you when or whether to add the sausage. It does tell me to use 38lf oz of chicken stock, so they didn't bother with any copyediting, either. What publisher would put out such a slap-dash thing? I have no idea, since the publisher's name is nowhere to be found, not even the copyright page. So no address to send complaints to, either. I haven't tried a recipe yet (I guess I could guess when to add the sausage), but if they are as little thought out as the book, I'm not going to try. I'll see if Amazon will take it back and refund my money. What a disappointment.

There are so many things wrong with this cookbook that I don't know where to start! I'm an avid cookbook collector, and I read new ones cover-to-cover. I also used to copy edit cookbooks, so I'm more aware of errors and inconsistencies than the average reader.I was hoping to find some interesting recipes for the pressure cooker ability of my Instant Pot. Instead, on page 31, there's a recipe for "Instant Pot Whole Chicken," whose ingredients are listed as "1 whole chicken, 1 lemon, 1 cup chicken stock." Or page 40's "Simple Shredded Chicken Breast for Chicken Salads and Sandwiches." The title is longer than the ingredient list, which consists of 3 skinless chicken breasts and 1 lemon! Then there's "Seared Salmon" on page 43, which calls for 4 salmon fillets, 1 lemon, and a "knob" of butter. (Reader beware: Some ingredients and quantities are not given in common U.S. terms.) This recipe calls for using the Instant Pot merely to saute the salmon. Why on earth would anyone use this appliance, with its deep bowl, solely for sauteing? And this is just one of several recipes that only use the Saute function.Perhaps the most ridiculous "recipe" is on page 77--"Soft-boiled eggs." Ingredients: 4 eggs. Seriously?I've never preheated my oven to "374 degrees Fahrenheit," but that's what the instructions on page 25 for "Lamb and Mint pies" tells me to do. Yes, I'm quibbling here about a typo, but this is just one example of the lack of attention to detail that courses throughout this book. This may be the first cookbook I've ever owned that failed to entice me to try any of its recipes. A total waste of money.

This is my 4th Instant Pot cookbook. They are all terrible! I only bought this, sight unseen, because it was cheap enough that I didn't mind losing the money if it wasn't good. First off.... this book has no pictures. I make recipes based on pictures -- if it looks good, I'll try it. Having the visual is a benefit to any cookbook. Second, I bought this, because I wanted simple, cheap, delicious, easy recipes with items we normally find at the market (or our own pantry) -- lamb is not what we typically eat in my house! (lamb and parsnip casserole? lamb and mint pies? no thank you!). The recipes were not written in The US...so the measurements leave you wondering -- " A Knob of butter" (you mean "pat" of butter ? The 3-bean chili recipe calls for 2 tins black beans, 2 tins kidney beans and 1 tin of cannellini beans. Well, what size tin (15 oz can? 28 oz can?)? How about the recipes that call for "rashers of streaky bacon". What is that?!?!? Is a rasher a "piece". What does "streaky" mean ??!? Oh, how about "laksa paste". Sorry..never heard of that....or the "Mini chicken salads" recipe that calls for "two cos lettuces". What -- is that a lettuce leaf? I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Waste of a few dollars.

Well, just tried our first recipe tonight and it did not go very well. We tried the Chicken Casserole, which other reviewers had recommended. First of all, it’s better described as a soup or stew as it has a TON of liquid (maybe they have a different idea of casserole in the UK, which is where the author seems to hail from). Also, the cooking time on it is laughably too long. It recommends 30 minutes on the poultry setting (which has a default time of something like 15 minutes). This is with all the ingredients - including sweet potatoes and carrots - in the pot. Since I always try to follow a recipe precisely the first time, I went with it, despite my better judgement. Oh boy, I should have trusted my instincts. The vegetables were completely water logged and basically disintegrated when you stirred the contents of the pot. I mean, I made homemade baby food when my kids were little and I didn’t even cook the vegetables that soft. It was a shame, because it smelled so good. Maybe I’m being too harsh, and should wait to review after trying another recipe or too, but this was just too terrible. The fact that it was recommended in other reviews really makes me wonder how awful the rest of the recipes are, if this was their favorite. I would have given it one star, but it did taste all right.

This book is not written for standard, continental 48 American cooks. Nowhere in the description was that made clear. Terminology is different and therefore requires the use of Google to figure out what the recipe even wants. I've been cooking, reading cookbooks, and watching American chefs on TV for 20 years, I should not have that much trouble with an ingredient list. However, "10 rashers of streaky bacon" does not make sense to me. I had to Google "capsicum"- which most Americans would call a bell pepper. The use of prawns over shrimp, and referring to "tins" which I assume are canned goods make it clear the author and audience are not the average American. I would have liked to know that before purchase as many of the ingredients the author claims are available at any local supermarket, are in fact not in Texas. I have not tested any of the recipes, but feel others should be warned about the difficulty. I still do not know how much a "knob of butter" is.

Entropy: The Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth

From the Inside Flap

This book discusses the proper definitions of entropy, the valid interpretation of entropy and some useful applications of the concept of entropy. Unlike many books which apply the concept of entropy to systems for which it is not even defined (such as living systems, black holes and the entire universe), these applications will help the reader to understand the meaning of entropy. It also emphasizes the limitations of the applicability of the concept of entropy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics. As with the previous books by the author, this book aims at a clear and mystery-free presentation of the central concept in thermodynamics the entropy. In this book, the concepts of entropy and the Second Law are presented in a friendly, simple language. It is devoid of all kinds of fancy and pompous statements made by authors of popular science books who write on this subject.

Entropy, The Truth, is a wonderful book, but my remarks will be more helpful if I comment on my background first. My background is in mathematics and probability theory, decades old, where I came across Shannon’s channel coding theorem in a grad school course in coding. Shannon’s “quirky” measure of information, called entropy, was always interesting to me, but my subsequent life’s work was only peripherally mathematical.Of course now every telecommunications engineer knows of Shannon’s entropy and the thermodynamics concept of entropy has taken on a life of its own in popular science books and in the press. The website the Edge.com claims to canvas the best minds in the world to answer questions. The 2017 question was “What scientific term or concept ought to be more widely known?” The Harvard psychology professor Steven Pinker wrote that it was the Second Law of Thermodynamics. But he goes on to repeat many of the nutty things that Professor Ben-Naim has tried for decades to extirpate from science books and the public mind. But it’s not just nutty things that are said. In fact, there is enough subtlety, variation and complexity in the Second Law and entropy that have resulted in wide variation in their definition and application. Ben-Naim has dedicated this book, and perhaps decades of work, to clarifying and explaining these concepts. And even more than that, he’s explained and unified not only entropy but also Gibbs free energy and Helmholtz energy. His unification of the information entropy with the thermodynamics entropy in a carefully derived mathematical formula puts a probability explanation of the second law front and center where it belongs. It’s truly a historic contribution to one of the most troubled central tenants of science. Now I admit that my only knowledge of physics is based on my own private reading, and I knew even less about thermodynamics. But I started by reading several of his earlier books, such as Farewell to Entropy (2008) and Information, Entropy, Life and the Universe (2015) which are much more mathematical and probabilistic then this book (Entropy, The Truth), and thus I could follow with my almost nonexistent thermodynamics background.Entropy, The Truth is much less mathematical, but it requires, like his other books, that you read carefully. He’s a careful writer using many “simple” examples and exhibits, and his book is aimed at a general, but scientifically educated, audience. But still, as good as he is at writing and explaining the concepts, the confusion over entropy and the second law would not have persisted so long in the heart of thermodynamics if it was easy to sort out.He divides the book into the three broad chapters. Chapter 1.”The Various Definitions of Entropy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics” you might consider to be looking at the forest rather than the trees. By that I mean he presents, not only the historical development of these concepts, but also his development that is presented in much more detail in his earlier books. Here you have to take more things for granted or refer to some of his earlier books. I’m the kind that wants to check every formula so it was good I read some of his earlier books first. But others may prefer to just accept the more technical derivations and look at the broader picture as is done here.Chapter 2. “Interpretation and Misinterpretations of Entropy” is a wonderful examination of every possible interpretation of entropy and misinterpretation of entropy. Through examining all the variations you really begin to get a deeper understanding of what entropy is and why Ben-Naim’s approach makes sense and all the other variations don’t.Chapter 3. “Applications and Misapplications of Entropy” is the most “thermodynamic” chapter. But by now I’ve developed a respect and better understanding of thermodynamics, and this chapter was perhaps the most interesting for me. His examples are always carefully explained and illustrated and my knowledge of the terminology has improved to the point that I want to do further reading in thermodynamics and physical chemistry. An additional benefit of reading this book is how to think carefully about the concepts and how to construct simple examples to test your reasoning. Ben-Nain has apparently been thinking and teaching about thermodynamics for more than half a century, so just seeing how he does this is interesting. I also liked the historical knowledge that you gradually accumulate as you read. The World Scientific books of Ben-Naim that I purchased, all paperbacks, have been of the highest quality I’ve ever seen in paperback. For the low price, every student of physical chemistry or thermodynamics, from undergrad to professor or practitioner, should read this book. But it should also be accessible to a broader audience such as someone with a background like mine (who may want to read an earlier book first as I did) or someone having a strong scientific or analytic background. The Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker would do well to read it.

Nice and clear book that clarifies the concept on entropy in a modern and satisfactory way.

Arieh Ben-Naim is one of those rare writers who takes a long hard honest look at physical concepts, without letting preconceptions get in his way.His books on entropy present his clear and direct comprehension, allowing the reader to share in his insights.Entropy and the second law have a definite subtlety to them, and as Professor Ben Naim explains there is all too much misrepresentation out there among popular books. All those who deal with entropy and the second law of thermodynamics can benefit from this book. Also, those who want to understand something about Shannon's information theory and the true relatiionship between this notion and entropy. Many authors relate the two, but do so in a manner that is vague at best and many are downright misleading. The explosion of interest in information theory in general and quantum information in particular ought to make this book a must-readfor many people.

Reading this book by Arie Ben-Naim is first of all a pleasant delightful way to get to know the basic of thermodynamics. Awesome field for many when taught in the academy. Captivating when you learn about thermodynamics through this book. The easy effortless and fascinating way to learn for the beginner even if he has no previous knowledge at all but reading it also deepen the understanding of those who are familiar with this field. That is the magic of the book: excellent for both groups. The learned and those who has not prior knowledge. In this regard this books like others written by Ben Naim resemble the famous course of physics by Richard Feynman. But there is more in this book ; Ben-Naim does not accept “common wisdom” related to essential concept in thermodynamic and claims that some concepts are misused even abused or misinterpreted . Particularly in regarf to the mystery of life. A bold step of him since some scientists will not love his standing. Ben Naim does not and stick to his conceptions. I do not want to be a “spoiler” and not reveal what it is all about. I will quote one sentence in the book and omit the key words: “The most unjustifiable , unwarranted, unacceptable , outrageous …..application of the concept of X and Y is undoubtedly in the phenomenon we call life. Read and learn what are X and Y. The price is reading this fascinating book.

I reached the end of Volume 4 and was heartbroken. So I had huge expectations for this book, and it delivered even more. The characters are so well developed, especially considering the medium and how little prose you can actually fit into a though bubble. I loved each of the characters in the book, even the tertiary characters. And the parallels that exist between the profession of the main character and the writers, and what you can read into yourself as the reader of the novel through the main character's eyes...I am gushing, and I know it. This book is a feel good story about some pretty heavy and heartbreaking events. The love and acceptance felt for and by each of the characters was palpable. The plot ending was given away in a previous book in the series, execution is just transcendent. I'm going to stop before unintentionally giving away spoilers, but I would give this 7 stars if I could.

By all means read this. But not first. Go back and catch up on 1-4.Yea, last two books had me worried and watching and ... yea.Good read. My series review from Sunstone 1 copied below for reference (I read them all before writing any reviews)The world is a wide place. Full of strangeness, and gems like this.First, address the elephant in the room: this series is set in context and world of BDSM and fetishwear. It is assuredly NSFW, and if kinks, homosexuality, nudity, erotic themes and situations, and dialog about nonstandard sexual preference and practice is going to bother you, ye have been warned. That being said, I started this on recommendation**, honestly because Sunstone had seriously outraged someone else so I figured it'd be good for at least a glance. And oh my, but there is a story there. This is a story addressing loneliness. About the communities around us, visible and otherwise. The connections we need, we crave to be human***. Too, it talks about consent, kinks, lifestyles, hobbies, and nerding out, treating them fairly. The artwork in the series is lovely, drawn in varying degrees of realistic tones and proportions (not chibi or cartoon-y, with occasional semi-photographic style or cartoonish look for bookends or emphasis)** If it helps, this was recommended by a librarian in charge of their graphic novel curation.*** not going for the obvious bondage joke there, but feel free to reference it if you wish

Beautifully illustrated, well-written finale to the "Sunstone" series. This final volume 5 mostly focuses its energy on the climax of the romantic story elements because though it revolves around BDSM and sexuality, Sunstone has always been at its heart, a love story. And sure, it may spend an unnecessarily long time drawing out the "will they, won't they" conclusion when the question has never at all been in doubt, but even if it doesn't break much new story-telling ground it's still solidly done and a beautiful story. Plus, it also happens to serve as a great introduction to certain kink communities that deserve to be well represented now and again!

Sejic finishes off his first major arc of Sunstone with the obligatory, but no less lovely, happy ending. Having fractured at the end of the previous volume, Lisa and Ally' relationship seems doomed. But thanks to help and perspective from their friends Alan and Anne (who also take their first steps towards a relationship that will be the focus of the next few volumes' new arc) the duo realize their shared love is mutual and Lisa grows up and starts healing the rift thanks to their original shared love of S&M fan fiction (how meta). From there it is only a few short steps towards the ending (for now) of Lisa and Ally's story. Sejic wraps things up on a lovely note and certainly satisfied fans of the first volumes. The final volume also includes plenty of bonus materials and notes from Sejic on how the series will progress from here on out (the next few volumes will be subtitled Mercy and focus on Anne and Alan's pasts and their growth towards each other).

It's finally the end (not really, but work with me) of Sejic's answer to Fifty Shades of Gray. The first arc of Sejic's sexual deviance/romance story wraps up as it should. This series has been funny, moving, and heartwarming at all the right points, and I'm glad to see it stick the landing. The story starts out with Ally and Lisa not speaking to each other, still reeling from the end of part four. slowly there lives start to reintegrate, a slow build that feels all too true to the real world. Sejic up the 'fantasy' aspects, with Lisa's fictional stories on her blog taking a large part of the narrative. It works much better than you would think. The artwork remains it's usually good at times and gorgeous at others you've seen up until now.Hope you enjoy the end as much as I did.

Having lived the club life, the goth/fetish scene, and been involved in some of the very situations Sunstone touches on, they are the most raw and real books on the emotional aspect of this subject matter that I have ever read. No overly-dramatic fluff to make the topics seem more taboo. And no dumbing down of the characters or the events to make them more accessible. Stjepan's art grabs my attention and makes me fall in love with the characters, and the writing makes the whole story come to life. A beautiful series by a very talented artist!

I wanted to say thank you Stjepan Sejic. Its been a long ride and a roller coaster of emotions. The story of two people learning to get over themselves and say I love you.It was beautifully written and immaculately detailed. I laughed, I cried and . . . I love.Cant wait for the next arc Mercy and I have my pre-order of the hard cover edition.
