This is the first book from Brad Sugars in almost 10 years. This is for business owners, new or experienced, young or mature, who want to learn how to run a better business. If you've read few or none of Brad's previous 14 books, the information will captivate and amaze you. Many of the business principles taught in the series are not part of formal business education. Many seasoned business veterans will realize they have learned many of these lessons the "hard way". If you are familiar with Brad's previous books and his teaching on the 5 Ways, team-building, sales, and maketing strategies, much of the content here will be a review. Take heart, however, as there is some new material. I was glad to see the explanations of allowable acquisition cost and lifetime value, two concepts which are relevant to all industries. Another feature, The Ladder of Loyalty, provides helpful insight into customer development for the long term. There are thought-provoking exercises at the end of every chapter which makes this more of a workbook. These scientists were convinced that the spreading of germs was central to illness and disease, and they struggled to improve healthcare within a system unreceptive to these ideas and the practical changes they would necessitate. As germs were ignored as underlying causes of disease in that era, social and community factors of health are ignored today: “[in treating socially disadvantaged patients], I am up against a body system that has been overrun by factors well outside the scope of medical practice . . . Ignoring social determinants [of health] is equivalent to treating patients with unwashed hands and wondering why disease keeps spreading.”“How Neighborhoods Make us Sick” follows through on this analogy, outlining the social determinants of health, interlaced with Squires and Lathrops’ narratives of their experiences running and expanding a free healthcare clinic for needy patients in Atlanta’s Westside, many of whom experience interlocking disadvantages in nutrition, housing, education, employment, geographic and economic mobility, and racial injustice -- experiences which are a common feature of life for America’s urban underclass.Squires and Lathrop show that the traditional contemporary American healthcare model, with its emphasis on rigid appointment structure, careful adherence to insurer policies and limitations, and brief diagnostic visits followed (almost exclusively) by either pharmaceutical or surgical interventions, does little to help the health of those in poverty and in otherwise disadvantaged communities. An expanded healthcare model can better serve these communities by providing long term therapy for mental and physical health, counseling and assistant for housing and employment, homeless sheltering, healthy and free or reduced-cost food, community outreach, and careful case tracking and management when these services are centrally located (similar to the “campus model” of welfare services embraced elsewhere by some progressive county governments). The authors provide a roadmap for these facilities, using their own revamped clinic as an example.In the final chapters, Squires and Lathrop confront the limitations of reliance on local charitable services such as their own, and urge readers to engage in national healthcare reform. Until we do so have, we have “implicitly accepted the fact that the poor and uninsured have shorter and unhealthier lives as a necessary consequence of our health care system.”This is a great read on the challenges of treating disadvantaged communities, particularly for those with an evangelical Christian perspective.

It’s no surprise that the lack of access to quality preventative health care caused by poverty affects a persons physical and/or mental health. What this book does is address how other factors including the stress caused by job insecurity, unstable housing, poor educational opportunities, access to healthy foods and other factors come together to prevent good health. The statistics regarding life expectancy based on zip codes was eye opening.The second part of the book offers hope in the form of programs not only at Good Samaritan but also across the country to assist people to reach the goal everyone desires - to be able to provide their families with a safe, sustainable environment in which to thrive.

I would call this book crucial for any invested in politics, education, health, or urban life. ANY Church body should be reading this...ANY neighbor, parent, teacher, medically related field, counselor, civic worker... would find it beneficial, as well. It's an incredibly well researched book that's brave and vulnerable and a massive gift to present and future generations. Great book with good recipes, easy to follow and understand. Bib book , has good pictures to see what your doing.

Definitely the go to source for all things canning. Didn't expect the volume to be as large as it is, but it is amazingly complete and covers each subject area thoroughly. This book is not a sit down and read cover to cover type of text. Once you read the chapters that you must understand to can safely then you refer to the specific food item you wish to can and follow the step by step directions. The first 2 or three chapters will give you a complete and unabridged understanding of the how, why's and required tools. So do not sell yourself short, gain the knowledge and then you can safely do a huge number of things that will literally last for a year or more. The most recent changes in the book are concerned with the maximum allowable time for foods to remain in a jar which is due to a formula chane in the sealing ring on the undersides of the flat lids. Ball, Kerr and Jarden have all collaborated to bring all of this info to one text that has everything you need all at your fingertips. Worth the money and indispensable especially for a canning newcomer.

Excellent book! Has fantastic recipes. I am very pleased with the contents.One word of warning about The Good Will however, I bought my copy through a third party seller, paid about six dollars. It was from The Good Will, the book was listed as Very Good Condition. When it arrived, it was crusted with food. The book had a crust, it was gross. It's the second book from The Good Will I've purchased, and both were listed as Very Good Condition, and both had something wrong. The other book had dead roaches smashed inside the cover and the cover was sticky. The cover of that book was actually white, and not antique brown like I originally thought when it arrived. Apparently to The Good Will, Very Good also means Very Dirty.

I looked all over Amazon for books on canning - reading dozens of reviews. The first book I bought was "Canning For Dummies". It's an ok book. I have always heard good things about "Ball Blue Book" but didn't immediatey buy it. After talking to several people on a canning FaceBook page, I decided to buy this book. I am sorry I didn't buy this in the first place.If you are a newbie to canning, I would highly recommend this book. I kept hearing about "head space" but didn't know exacty how to measure that out. Well...this book shows you what it looks like.In addition, there are so many recipies for canning, both hot water bath and pressure canning. Not to mention they go over freezing, dehydrating and curing.There is a real nice index in the back so looking stuff up is a breeze.One of the things that caused me to delay buying the book was several reviewers saying how flimsy the pages are. I kinda see what they mean. It is not regular "book strength" paper, but it is not as flimsy as "magazine paper". It's a little bit stronger than that. It is glossy so you can wipe it off. Being a canning newbie and having this book in my hand, I would absoutely recommend this book to anyone starting out in canning. Do not let the nit-picking reviews stop you. This is a very good foundational book.

I mourned the loss of my original copy lost during moving. It must have gotten mixed in with books to donate. I used it for many years canning and preserving the foods my late husband and I grew in our garden. Though I no longer can as much as I used to, I still use it when I receive an abundance of fruits and vegetables from others or purchase from the farmers market.

I bought this book because it was really a good guide to canning fruits and vegetable. Something happened to my copy and I bought this one which is the best edition I had ever used. The new edition has a lot of recipes but that is not what I needed. I needed the canning instructions. Of course I lost my marginal notes but I will get those back. I was just glad the Amazon had one.

I'm a newbie canner and started my obsession with "Canning for a New Generation". Being a new canner, I still have plenty of "holes" in my knowledge and I wanted to know how to can much simpler recipes. This is my go to book for that. The recipes are simple and "old-fashioned" but they are great to use as a reference. I like the fact that it is so versatile. If you want to make heavy syrup, honey syrup, extra light syrup to can your fruits in, you can. If you want to can just green beans, you can. Instead of having complicated recipes, it's basic fruit and vegetable canning. It's great and has already been used....a lot. I will cross reference it with recipes from my other more "gourmet" canning books and often times have this open along side my other books!

I have a Ball Blue Book I received from my mother when she passed away 12 years ago, and it was hers for many years, so it was pretty old by the time I got it. I used it a lot and the recipes were always spot on. It is the canner's "bible". Recently my sister-in-law in another state e-mailed me and lamented that she had tried to make peach jam and described the result. Well, she had done just about everything wrong! Get this--she had tried to water bath them in a rice cooker, for one thing...I immediately ordered this book for her and she is overjoyed. It hasn't changed much since my old edition, which is actually something that is an excellent selling point.

All I can say is OMG, OMG, OMG!!!! This is hilarious, ingenious, funny, and the artwork is spot on for the characters. This encompasses Star Trek TNG with cats. Brilliant!!! We also have the original Star Trek cat book. Jenny Parks, if you ever read these reviews, my daughter and I plead with you to please, please please make a Star Trek "Voyager" cat book. Just in having these two we thought of ideas for a Voyager one. The Borg queen would have to be in it, along with the Vidians and the Hirogens, and maybe Naomi Wildman???? Not sure what cat breed, though. Voyager fans would understand. Anyway, if you love cats and Star Trek, you'll get a kick out of this. These are our coffee table/conversation books right now. Great job and great idea!

my son is in love with the first star trek cats book, so preordering this was a no-brainer. my son has recently become obsessed with the borg, so seeing Locatus on the back cover sent him over the moon. thanks, Jenny. this series is such a creative endeavor and a really phenomenal way for kids and parents to bond over trek. it should probably be noted that while this is a great book for kids, it’s not a bad conversation piece for a coffee table. my adult friends enjoy paging through the first one (possibly more than my son haha) so I imagine the next time i entertain, it will be no different with this book.

This book's author is obviously a well versed and knowledgeable Star Trek fan. Each page is an absolute work of art. As a huge cat person and a long time fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I enjoyed the many feline interpretations depicting well known scenes from popular episodes within the series. This book (and its predecessor) are must haves for any Star Trek fan that enjoys something truly unique. I will immediately buy any future books in the series should they do a volume covering Deep Space Nine, Voyager or Enterprise.

I bought this for my father-in-law for Christmas. He is a huge Star Trek fan, especially next generation, and he has a bunch of cats. So basically, this was the perfect gift for him. I read through it before I wrapped it for him and cracked up at the cat portrayals of the characters, especially Warf and Dr. Piccard

This book is exactly what it advertises itself to be. A cute illustrated book featuring scenes from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but all the characters are cats. The artwork is fantastic and really captures the feeling of the characters and the show. Its the perfect gift for Star Trek/Cat lovers (in case you need a good crossover gift!).

As a cat lady and new TNG fan I bought this for my bff who is a long term, cat lady and hard core trekky (her wedding cake was the starship enterprise). Illustration is amazing and it covers almost all the best episodes... Totally amazing! Huge fan! 10/10 would buy again
