There are many typos in the Spanish translations of the vocab list, especially concerning accents. There are also some mistranslations and errors in the sentences. But, though those make the book feel like it lacks care and polish, I think they should not be considered flaws in either the book or the learning style espoused by the author.I learned Spanish as an adult, and have lived or travelled in about half the Spanish-speaking countries, for a total time of a few years. One of my biggest problems while struggling for fluency was that I would learn particular opening phrases entirely too well. I would pronounce one accurately with correct grammar, and the native speaker would naturally assume I could actually speak! So, they'd rattle off a rapid-fire response and I'd be totally lost. I eventually learned that if my real goal was communication, as opposed to perfect speech, I was far better off speaking very slowly and making some really obvious pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar errors right off the bat.The Spanish-speaking world is huge and diverse. The typical vocabulary and accent vary widely depending on the region, country, and even city. After a few months in one place you might be able to blend in pretty well. But for anything less, learning the Spanish in this book will at least enable you to communicate effectively with shopkeepers and anyone working in the tourism industry. I'm going to use this method for my next language.
I was skeptical at first with this book, only because I have tried so many others. But this book geniously consentrates on centric words spoken in the Spanish language. I have only had it no more then three months, and I am able to have conversations with my Hispanic friends, and help customers at my job that only speak Spanish. In the beginning of the book it gives you clear directions, you cannot go wrong. But you need to be honest with the time you devote on a daily basis to learn a new language. I decided to dedicate 30 minutes everyday to one page. And I just followed the directions to the letter. And I can't believe how even now I can understand music, TV, and conversations around me in Spanish. I have ordered this book for my kids. Best investment.
I like the shortlist of Spanish words that constitute the overwhelming majority of conversational vocabulary. The grammar is iffy and was totally dismissed by my Spanish tutor. A fair buy, but should not be your sole reliance on studying a new language.
We use this little text in my Spanish class. It's small and just feels "quick and easy." The vocab and sentence use is a good way to learn a language.
I've been studying Spanish for about 1 month. Taking 30 minutes to read this book has already taught me more conversational skills than that previous month of traditional study did. Great way to learn important but very basic words . One gets a little grammar.The introductory pieces are not helpful. Several typos. Many accents missing .It’s worth getting as it is cheap.
This book is stupid and did not teach me anything. It keeps scolding me "this is not a phrasebook!" I'm like, OK what I meant to buy was a phrase book.
This is a quick read and a great reference to refer to when trying to get around in a foreign country. Many of the most common terms and phrases (greetings, common questions, seasons, days of the week, numbers, etc) are broken down into easy to remember sections. Once you grasp these phrases, the combinations are endless. Most of the vocabulary revolved around practical conversational topics that would likely come up in most every encounter. It's a good price point and a quick reference for when you're in need. I definitely recommend this book be on your shelf if you are or plan to be in a Spanish speaking environment as I am in Los Angeles.
