This book provides a good overview of chili (pepper) growing. Lots of info on cultivation, canning, etc. The large section on varieties of peppers seemed incomplete, though. Of the 30-ish varieties I've grown in my garden, only half or so were included. Of course, the basic varieties, like jalapenos and so on, are all in there. DeWitt is a recognized leading expert in the field of chili cultivation and that itself justifies picking up this book, but it's more of a "starter guide" than a book for the experienced chili gardener. Nice coffee table book with nice pictures and presentation.

This is a large book that attempts to cover everything,but goes into detail about nothing.I would really like to have seen less recipes and more about preserving and processing peppers then how to cook other foods.Importance seems to be misplaced on the wrong subjects in this book.

Was so excited to get this book! I sat down to peruse and next thing you know a few hours had elapsed. I do own another pepper book, which is mainly a cookbook. But this, is on an entire new level. Currently, my garden has about 10 types of peppers, and I'm looking to expand. This book has helped me identify problems and illnesses that ail pepper plants, as well as provides recipes, techniques for preparing and storing peppers and dried spices. It gives a great description of over 100 peppers. The pictures are close up and beautiful. If I had to say something negative about this book, it would be that only some descriptions give Scoville ratings, others do not. My other book that has a handy graph that I use to look up Scoville ratings, which helps me decide if I want to purchase that type of pepper plant. There are so many types of peppers, and only a fraction of them are listed in either of my books, so if you want a tome that covers varieties exhaustively, this is not the book.

Really good books that covers almost all the basics of chile pepper growing. I have been growing peppers for a couple years before I got this book and still learned a ton. This books covers the different chile families, different methods of growing, different planting arrangements, common issues and how to fix them, and also includes some recipes for all the chiles you will be growing.I have already pulled this book off the shelf multiple times to diagnose issues and to make sure I am doing everything right to maximize my harvests. So far my pepper garden is absolutely exploding with peppers and I think some of that has to do with this book.I would highly recommend this books to anyone growing chiles whether just a couple plants or a whole green house full of them.

The major regret I have is that I didn't buy this book BEFORE buying my chile pepper seeds. It is so jam packed with information about chile peppers that it even helps you decide on a more informed basis which peppers to choose for your garden. I am still happy with the peppers I have chosen to grow, but I will be buying other varieties now because of what I learned so far. For example, I'm thinking of planting a couple of ornamental peppers to beauty up the place and give the birds something to nibble on and leave my other peppers alone.I have done some extensive researching about chile peppers on the internet before buying this book and found some contradictory information here and there which kind of left me confused. Having one reliable source like this book around is really great, as it addresses a myriad of topics relating to chile peppers. However, I did find that the majority of the information I already knew about the subject from searching the net, was exactly the same as in the book, plus there are some websites that the book refers to that offer more advice and tips regarding specific areas.The author seems to have a very close association with The Chile Pepper Institute in New Mexico, which is considered like the MIT of chile pepper research. Having ordered my seeds from that same institute, I noticed that one of the authors was talking about each and every type of chile peppers that they offer (plus a couple that they don't), which is an advantage if you plan on growing your own peppers since you can directly look it up in the book, which gives more details about each type of pepper than the website. However, I do agree with other reviews, that they have not included many other types of chile peppers and that does prove a bit disappointing considering it is "the complete" guide.If you have the slightest interest in chile peppers or are curious about growing them, then this book will take you to the next level. However, for the average gardener, like myself, the book can get a bit too technical, especially in the beginning where it discusses cultivation, but ultimately, it doesn't hurt to go through it and gain some knowledge. The book also contains some recipes and uses for chile peppers, which I have not gotten to yet, in addition to an entire section on diseases that affect chile peppers and how to treat or avoid each type.The one topic that the book address ineffectively was under the preservation of chile peppers where it describes how to make wreaths, but is not illustrated which makes it almost impossible to do it yourself! That was one of the major disappointments for in this book. I also hoped that the book would shed some light on using liquid tomato food at half concentration to feed the chile plants, as suggested by several websites, but unfortunately it does not.So far the book has been a real attention grabber for me and I have been hardly been able to put it down and I really look forward to reading it from cover to cover, probably, over and over again. Overall, it is a valuable reference book that every chilehead must have handy!

Love this book and the recipes! Super informative for a newbie. My husband didn't really like how it was organized. He thought it should be alphabetical by pepper but I get that it was organized differently for a reason.

May be too early to write a review, but I am really enjoying this book. DeWitt knows his stuff, and provides the reader with both depth of science behind different species, as well as practical understanding of different peppers. Looking forward to trying many of the recipes provided in the later portion.

Great book! Much insight on the history and care of peppers; also some decent recipes. It is a dated book now, but still an excellent addition to the bookshelf of those who look forward to any day with peppers on the menu.

Not much detailed information, just touches on every aspect but very little detail. As a brand new grower, I found way more information on random web searches and took very little information away from this book. Also very short book, took maybe 2 days of casual reading to finish all but the cooking section.. Nice to add to the repetoir though I guess.

We just got back from a week-long trip to the Black Hills using this guidebook, and while it was better than nothing, and the information was generally correct, it was very hard to use. Instead of being arranged by location, the attractions are arranged by category, with each category subdivided yet again. And the index is no use, since they're not indexed by location. This means that if you're sitting in your motel in (say) Deadwood, and wondering what to do in town, you literally have to thumb through the entire book to figure out! Very frustrating. And the book lacks detailed maps where they are needed (the Deadwood-Lead area, where the roads are rather confusing, or the area around Keystone, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse). The maps mention the Mickelson Trail, but it's not in the index, and we didn't find out what it was until we were actually there (hint: it's not a scenic highway). And the book needs to be more emphatic about the need to stay away from this whole region in early August because of the motorcycle madness.

We are planning a trip to the Badlands and Black Hills in September. Insider's Guide provides a wealth of information and I'm finding it a valuable asset. Combined with info from the internet, we will have a well organized trip with knowledge of this area's history.

We just returned from over a week in the Badlands and Black Hills. Although this book had a lot of very useful information, I hated searching through it. Everything is divided into its own category: hotels, restaurants, activities, etc. So when we were in one place for a day or two, we had to search through different sections to find all of the info for that one place. Even worse, each section is divided out by Northern Hills, Central Hills, etc. or by the type of food you're looking for. There was no central location to find all of the restaurants in Deadwood, for example. Apart from that, I found most of the info to be correct and useful. A few of the entry fees were higher in reality, but my biggest problem was with the book's organization. It was a great vacation, and I had a hard time coming home...

What can you expect from a book that can't even get the cover photo right? The photo is of a region called the Coyote Buttes along the Arizona-Utah border!! I thumbed through it just out of curiousity upon seeing the glaring mistake, but it didn't look as good as the travel material I already had with me, so I didn't buy it.

The only issue we have is the speaker is weak and quiet, sometimes sounding distorted.Update (July 10, 2018): The speaker quit about a month ago, approximately 90 days after buying the book. It’s really disappointing because the Mitch Holthus voice is something I always loved growing up and wanted the opportunity for my boys to hear it. I also can’t seem to find a way to contact the seller, but that’s probably “user error” on my part.

With the intense leave-off of the previous volume (Negan's escape, his assault on the Whisperers, the Whisperers assault on the survivors, and all that fun stuff), this volume really brings in some slaughter and redemption. As the title implies, Rick's people are officially at war with the Whisperers, thanks to Negan taking out their leader in search of trust and redemption from Rick. When Rick calls for aid from the Sanctuary and the Kingdom, they are reluctant to help. The Sanctuary's actions against Alexandria's informer may cause another war before the Whisperer war is even over. The Kingdom eventually comes to the aid of the Hilltop, but they are a bit late. Meanwhile, Dwight and Michonne take up the front lines to slaughter walkers and Whisperers alike. Happy with the final result, they tell Rick of their victory. When Dwight mentioned they took out hundreds, maybe even a thousand, Rick rallies the troops, because they did not face the ocean of walkers Rick had previously foretold them of. The herd is on its way to Alexandria, leaving us itching for the next volume to see who lives, who dies, and what will become of the ocean of walkers.This volume was interesting, exciting, and engaging from cover to cover. Not only do we see the conflict between the survivors and the Whisperers, but between the settlements of the living as well. We also get to see a different side of Negan and learn just a bit about Lucille--the REAL Lucille.

The Whisperer War is issues 157-162 of the popular The Walking Dead comics! With a herd of walkers descending on the group led by the Whisperer's, it's up to everyone to take out this threat once and for all. As Negan comes back to Rick with a surprise of his own, Rick is a leary of him but finds that he might be useful after all. With everyone fighting the herd and the Whisperer's, it takes a hidden surprise from the group to turn things in their favor with the most shocking and bloodiest war to date. They are left with the thought, did they kill all the Whisperers or is something more sinister coming in the future!Wow, Wow Wow is all I have to say about this volume of comics! This volume is so full of surprises that it's gonna make waiting until the next volume is release, kinda hard to do because you want to know what is gonna happen next for everyone, right now!! I truly believe that Negan is playing Rick but only time will for that and I so wish that everything that has played out in the comics so far, will find it's way to the show just to see it play out on screen!!Thank You to Robert Kirkman for making me want to read comics like this one that keep you coming back for more!!This book came from my own personal Library!

Arrived home late from airport, found this on counter, tore open the package and stayed up past midnight reading. Well worth the lost sleep. Looking forward to next chapter and eventually finding out who/what is in OHIO!

The novels just keep getting better, artistically and plot-wise. So much better than the show.

I cannot help it... I love this graphic novel. Even if this one isn't the best one, it's still like getting a birthday present every time one comes out.

More strong work by the TWD team. The survivors have rebuilt much of what they lost, and are adapting to the new insane order within the limits of human capacity. But the tensions and questions of what existence and survival mean continue to be explored.

A lot of going on in volume 27. Can't wait for volume 28.

I have read all TWD GA books from the beginning so always need to get the next one. This one continues the very well written/developed story arch semi-paralleled in the TV series. As Mr. Kirkman has said, the GA story and TWD TV show will parallel but not duplicate each other so very much worth the read.Do strongly recommend starting at volume 1 to get the full story and all the character development. Real joy to continue reading the storyline.

Thank you Max for all your insights.

I used the book as a daily devotional. Max Lucado has a God given talent to open the scriptures in new and amazing ways that lets the reader see Christ in ways they never thought of before. An inspiring time spent with our Lord and Savior. A great way to start ones day. Thank you, Max.

NOTE - the text of the book is SUPERB ... but this particular edition is poor!! The physical size of the book small and the font size is tiny. I won't bother to return it but will have to order a "normal" edition of this fine book!

Max Lucado is my favorite Christian contemporary author and it's no wonder. He really knows how to engage the reader. His writing is never dry or without spark. That can be said for this book and his other books as well. What makes this book unique is that it is about miracles, and he teaches us in his writing that they can still happen today.

Max's books always inspire me. He has a wonderful way with words that can only be a gift from God. Not only are his books inspirational, they are humorous, uplifting and true to the nature of our God and His only Son, Jesus. His books also make great devotional reading which I do at bedtime or if I can't sleep at night.

How can this book be anything but inspired? The scripture comes alive in such a way as to wipe the very tears from a wounded heart. If there can be such a thing as a hug in a book, this is it. I read it during the most painful and seemingly hopeless days of my existence and felt the Love of God filling the cracks of my broken life. Now, years later, I eagerly anticipate re-reading this tender salve from the other side of the valley.

No way we can deny Gods presence and His working in our lives...The Scriptures say" even if all mankind did not praise and worship God ( which of course will never be the case) as the scriptures say's" the stones of the earth Will cry out in praise to Him"This book is our link to know and understand the love, the magnificence of God and how much He cherishes us, cares for us and about us.

Pastor Lucado has been my favorite pastoral author for decades. I read and re-read his writings because it is simply powerful and life-changing. He presents the Scriptures in a relatable manner, with a touch of humor, and He Still Moves Stone is perfect. I started reading this book at 5:00 PM and could not put it down until I finished a few hours later. Whenever he produces a book I purchase it. Inspirational and life-altering!

I don’t know about you, but I have a little difficulty in applying language skills. Vocabulary is easy to learn, but how does it fit?After learning Spanish, German, and Italian, my next focus was French. French has always given me a little difficulty, and that is where this book comes in.If you have a basic understanding of French vocab and a little grammar, this book “tricks” you into learning by teaching you in seven stories.You don’t realize you are learning until you notice that you are no longer mechanically translating in your head. You are seamless.I found this book along with my Duolingo app were the two best additions to my French learning. Bravo to the author, and I hope they do a Part Deux.

This is an excellent book to start learning French. The stories are easy to follow and there are good explanations of phrases. If you are beginning you will need to hear it as you read. My pronunciation is fairly good so I didnt need it as I went through the first time. At the end of the book there is a link to get the audio. It took me a while to figure which link that was. The download was not that easy for me, however I did accomplish it. That's the only drawback to an excellent format.

These stories are short, flow nicely and written in an easy read format!They provide an excellent read for beginning to intermediate French learners for several reasons!The content is moving with a nice easy flow, providing dictionary reference by boldly printing definitions within the read.The subject variety of each little story is really great as well and provides a solid vocabulary on many different useful, everyday topics.I did enjoy this authors approach to improving French conversation and vocabulary through short stories. This book is true to its words, It is the painless way to improve your french vocabulary and your confidence with reading and listening.It's easy to master because each paragraph is broken down with a French to English glossary. Though it's a really long book, the audio part is very convenient for me. I was able to listen to it, anytime I want and a big help for me to know the right way to say the words.The exercises after each stories are important because it allows me to apply what I have learned in French language. Worth your time and money!Â

The main reason I decided to proceed with this eBook was for the MP3 recording, most I have come across do not have this feature. It's vital to hear the pronunciation, not to mention it was narrated by a native french speaker which was a big plus. I took French classes in high school but never completely grasped the language, I feel this eBook has helped with my specific learning curve, providing a Glossary right in the eBook itself. Actually hearing the speaker really helped me personally, provided me with a more "one-on-one" feel versus the huge classes I'm used to. I took about two years of French classes, I wouldn't say I'm a beginner but I am definitely not an expert either, this was a perfect fit and great for the cost too. Someone who wants to brush up on their French, maybe lost touch with the language would really appreciate this and the short stories were great to read.

I have learnt French on and off for many years. As a result I have more than a basic knowledge of the language but have also forgotten much between periods of learning. I like to read to improve my French but it is difficult to find books that are right for my level; not too hard but still challenging enough to help me improve. I found this book helpful because it was the right mix of those two things. I particularly liked the running vocabulary alongside the text, I found it to be of great assistance for words and phrases I didn't know and it meant that I didn't have to read with a dictionary beside me, constantly looking up words. It was also a good length, not too long but not too short like some similar ebooks are. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it for anyone who has some prior knowledge of French and is looking to improve their skill level, whilst picking up some essential french phrases.

I have always been interested in the French culture and language. So, when I came across this E-book, I was anxious to see just how much I would learn. At first, I was a bit intimated because the whole E-book is in French and being a beginner it seemed a bit overwhelming. After going through the first few short stories, I realized learning French from this E-book would be a bit easier than I thought. Beneath each short story is a series of meanings which helped me to figure out what the story was about. The meanings of most of the words in the short story allowed me to gain an understanding of what the story itself was about but also see how specific words are spelt. In addition to this E-book, I also received an audio file which further helped me to learn French. I was so grateful for the audio file because before listening to it, I had no clue if I was even pronouncing the words right. I am sure my French accent did not sound French at all but by listening to each short story and actually hearing the pronunciation, I was able to practice at my own leisure and get it right. I am more than satisfied with this E-book; definitely money well spent!
