About the Author

Curt Dudley-Marling is a professor in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, where he teaches courses in literacy and language arts. His research interests focus on struggling readers and writers, the social construction of learning identities, and the potential of high-expectation curricula with low-achieving students. Abigail M. Judge, PhD, is a clinical and child and family forensic psychologist. Dr. Judge maintains a private practice in Cambridge, MA, is a Forensic Consultant at the Law and Psychiatry Service at Massachusetts General Hospital, and holds an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Judge provides psychotherapy, consultation, forensic evaluation, expert witness testimony, and reunification intervention. Robin M. Deutsch, Ph.D., ABPP, is a child and family forensic psychologist, board certified in couples and family practice. She is Director of the Center of Excellence for Children, Families and the Law at William James College in Newton, MA, where she developed the Certificate in Child and Family Forensic Issues and the Child and Family Evaluation Service. She is a founding Board member of Overcoming Barriers, was formerly an Associate Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School, and was Director of Training and Forensic Services at the Children and the Law program at Massachusetts General Hospital for over 20 years. Good review of parental alienation issues, but not user friendly for average therapist. Advocates a particular program that is not readily accessed by most families. Nevertheless, it is a valuable resource for those interested in parental alienation and high conflict divorce.

The one redeeming quality of this book is that it mentions Craig Childress, which I am sure the authors regret in retrospect. Other than that, this book is garbage. Its authors present an apologist declaration in support of alienating parents, in the guise of supporting alienated children. Do yourself a favor. Avoid this book and read the books of Craig Childress instead.

Rather "dry" as this was written for clinicians (much like a textbook). However, as a lay-person needing to understand, it was quite useful.

Excellent program that every family court should have as a tool within their jurisdiction.

very pertinent to my work

Awesome text!

I am a therapist working with children and families in high conflict divorce situations and working to reunify parents and children in these families. I found this book an invaluable resource. Not only does it give critical concrete interventions, it also includes tools for psycho-education (which may not always be intuitive) and points out the ways traditional family therapy may not succeed in mending parent/child relationships. It also highlights how the parent that children continue to see may unintentionally or intentionally contribute to the problem and offers ideas to assist in changing that behavior. A great resource for therapist and attorneys who deal with families in these situations.

I have attended an Overcoming BArriers Program and was not impressed. They did nothing for me and my estranged family other than reinforce their negative views and their expertise was not regarded as helpful in my case. I found the camp ultimately not helpful in the least. I have been asked to write reviews but feel as if they cull out all negative or not positive critiques and wish to only present hopeful scenarios. My concerns about the camp and its direction went unadressed. Little to no outreach post camp experience other than to write a review.

Great information you won't find anywhere else and playfully written.

This book contains a wealth of valuable advice about maximizing your financial aid package, but a lot of it requires some advance planning. So don't read it when your kid is actually applying to colleges (like mine is) or you will kick yourself! But actually, even now I learned some things that could save me thousands. The lame attempts at humor get on my nerves, but if you can get past them it's an easy read.

Poignant, hilarious and fascinating, and at all times straightforwardly humble, this is one of the best autobiographies I have stumbled upon in a long time. Although I am by no means a connoisseur of autobiographies, I do read quite a lot and have no shame in throwing a partially read book back onto the shelf if it's not to my taste (I'm looking at you, The Alienist). Freedom Found is beautifully written and follows the epic life of Warren Miller, finally showing you the man behind over 50 years of iconic winter sports filming. Not only does this book recount, first hand, many American eras that few people alive can remember (e.g., the Great Depression), it's told by a brilliant mind with incredible life experience (the book opens with a quick ski trip down an ACTIVE VOLCANO! Common. And we have the footage to prove it). As attributed to the man himself, it makes you really take to heart his admonishment: “Don’t take life too seriously, because you can’t come out of it alive.”

Such dynamic man with such a great life story. It's hard to grasp how much one person can experience in a life time, but Mr. Miller does a wonderful job of bringing you in to the fantastic journey of his life. His challenges, triumphs, and all of the great stories in between. 5 stars for content, all of the great ski history and entertainment value. If you have ever watched a Warren Miller film, like to ski, or love the entrepreneurial mind this book is a must read. And don't be surprised if you find yourself planning your next adventure when your done reading it. This book reminds you that there is so much more to life, you just have to go out and discover it!

This book is incredibly boring. Based on the Warren Miller movies I have enjoyed I assumed this book would be full of humor and funny stories. Quite the opposite. Warren is surprisingly uptight and judgmental. Maybe that's because he wrote this book later in life as an old grump, I don't know. Throughout the book he judges the Kennedy family, people who drink, the Simpsons TV Show, and basically anyone who enjoys themselves. Total opposite of what I was expecting from a quirky ski film maker.The book is chronological. I got about 2/3rds in and he was still writing about the early 60s. I only have about 100 pages to go and he still has not discussed the modern era. Also each chapter is very short and full of fluff. It's like he was just trying to think of things to write about to take up space in his book. Some of his stories are total dead-ends with no point.All in all I'm grateful for the movies this guy made but he didn't need to write a book. Don't waste your time with this.

A sad, fascinating, humorous, inspiring story written by a master story-teller. I'm glad to know much more about the life of this man who provided so much joy, pleasure and entertainment over the years. Thank you, Mr. Miller, for taking the time to introduce me to the mountains that I have so grown to love over the years. Thank you also for your honest and straight-forward perspective on the joys of a simple life.

If you ever dreamed (even a little bit) about being a ski bum, you will enjoy this book. Even if you didn't grow up on Warren Miller movies in the community rec center you will like Warren's storytelling of a fascinating life spent travelling the world and his uncanny ability to sort of "make it up" as he went along. The book is well written and there seems to be no end to the interesting situations that Warren found himself in. I always loved his ski movies but I had no idea that his life behind the scenes was so much more interesting than the movies.

Good read! I found out a lot about Warren Miller that I didn't know. Definitely have to admire him. This book is highly recommended.

I have been a fan of Warren Miller's movies since the 1980s. I have never missed an annual movie since. The last 10 years of movies have really missed something and now I know why. Warren wasn't part of them.There are a great many stories that Warren's fans will love to hear. But the book is also a heartfelt and introspective look at Warren himself. What a life he's lead! I admire and envy the man far more than before I read the book.This is a must read book for any fan.

I’m bias as I have loved his films since I was a kid so I was extremely interested in knowing about his life. I am also a skiers so it was wild to hear him discuss all the people that he became friends with that have had a massive impact within the ski industry around the world. It’s just wild. It’s also deeply revealing. I appreciate him including his faults and struggles. I just wish I had the chance to meet him.

Amazing story of "justice." Everybody should read this. It is astounding how many years it took to get the truth out about his confession. It simply underscores the wisdom of never talking to anybody in a legal case without YOUR OWN lawyer to advise you.Another book in this genre I cannot recommend too highly is "The book of Matt" by Stephen Jimenez. The difference between the truth and what is reported in the media is beyond belief in this account of the killing of a young gay man in Wyoming. You will never trustingly read the newspapers again after reading this book.Taking a deep breath after reading Perverted Justice, this is the sorry chronicle of stupid and ignorant people living in the lowest stratum of American society engaging in purposeless and violent criminal activity and the people higher up the food chain, with more intelligence and education, who make a living off them at the expense of the taxpayer. There must be a better way.

This is an incredible story on how the system failed all of us. My name is Charles Salvatore and I Am one of the detective along with my partner who investigated these murders. This is a must read for everyone to understand how politics can dictate our justice system. Thank you Bill for exposing this miscarriage of justice. Thanks you again for clearing my name and my partners name.

It's regrettable the media outlets that were complicit in peddling all the BS the Innocence Project fed them refuse to acknowledge their lack of due diligence and responsibility in setting these murderers free, and the danger and financial expense this has put upon the taxpayers of Chicago.

A good book on how the Innocence Project at Northwestern University went awry, setting free a murderer and convicting an innocent man, Alstory Simon. Simon's conviction was eventually throw out and he is now suing Northwestern University. It also shows how the legal system fails when politics gets involved in the justice system. A good read.

Very well written and a compelling story of injustice in the pursuit of justice. The most difficult aspect of this book is the lives destroyed by students, faculty, school administrators who were more interested in fame than the truth.
