This is another diet book, but it is different than most. This is a diet to get rid of the carbohydrates that we all consume all day, every day. Carbs are making us unhealthy, sick and dying. This book explains what inflammatory food is and what to replace it with. Inflammatory foods are gluten, soy, dairy as a beverage, vegetable seed and industrialized oils, cheese and yogurt. All of these ingredients are in store bought or packaged foods. There is also a gut bacteria balance quiz included. Suggestions are given to reset and support your Microbiome balance. There are so many reasons why we feel anxiety and this diet is worth looking into. I do not know anyone who does not have anxiety.

This book was fascinating. I suffer from intense bouts of anxiety, so learning about ways to reduce my anxiety through the foods I eat was really neat. I also just liked using this book as a way to learn more about how food effects your body. I don't think we're often conscious enough of how types of foods can impact how we feel. This book is informative, interesting, and easy to read. It's a good guide for figuring out which foods you might be sensitive too, which ones will give your body more energy, and how you can modify your diet to suit your needs. Also, the recipes in this book are DELICIOUS! I like that this diet is split into smaller sections (each chapter deals with one), which explains why that is included and how to follow that part of the diet. There are also suggested recipes at the end of each of the fundamental "R's" chapters, which I found helpful.
I had no idea that diet was so closely related to mental processes until I read this book! I've been feeling worse since starting grad school and I suddenly realized with the help of this book that it's because I've been eating really badly. Now I feel prepared to make better choices for myself!I love that this book includes so many recipes. They all use a similar bunch of core ingredients, so shopping is easy. Most of them take under an hour, and some take even less than half an hour. I've mostly been trying the quicker recipes, but I can't wait for the weekend so I can try some of the more ambitious ones! The author has clearly put so much thought into creating a helpful guide.
I couldn't put this book down for a few reasons. 1) It is easy to read and clearly explains the science behind the gut/brain axis and discusses many common health issues that millions of people suffer with (leaky gut, adrenal fatigue, sensitivities, etc.) 2) It contains assessments to see where your anxiety and other health issues stem from. 3) The recipes, supplement guides and shopping lists are fantastic.This book focuses on keto and low carb, nourishing foods and explains what foods are helpful for certain health issues and why. I love that instead of some of the keto advocates that promote 'eat meat and cheese all day', she focuses on whole, nourishing foods that promote healing, not a yes or no food list.This is NOT a book that cures your anxiety or health issues just by reading it. It is NOT a supplement guide that suggests pills to take to be cured overnight (although supplements are recommended). It is NOT a book that tells you to drink a green smoothie each day to be healthy. This book is a lifestyle guide that you have to mentally wrap your head around and physically work on by overloading your kitchen, changing your food choices and putting time into preparing nourishing meals.This all being said, I do consider myself educated in the information that was in the book so for me, it was an easier read (not to be confused with extremely informative!). If someone is coming from the Standard American Diet with no knowledge on nutrition/science, it may be a bit overwhelming. But if you are willing to put in the effort and use this as a lifestyle guide, this book is fabulous.
This book is amazing! Ali has done a phenomenal job breaking down the science and making it easy to understand for your every day reader. After just a few chapters in I felt like I really understood how my current diet was affecting my mood and OCD/rapid thoughts and how making changes/eliminating certain foods can certainly improve symptoms. This book is packed with great information and changing how I view my health and the food choices I make for myself and my family. I just happened to stumble upon Ali while listening to her speak on a Keto Podcast and just felt like she was so easy to understand and it all made such perfect sense. Since then I follow her on Instagram, listen to her podcast “Naturally Nourished†and follow her blog. She has a wealth of knowledge and this book is worth looking into even if you don’t have anxiety. Highly recommend!!! You’ll learn so much as to why our food is making us sick and what you can do to improve your health, reverse chronic disease and make this a new lifestyle.
